something fluffy and light-hearted to read, preferably not chic lit? Everything I read lately, be it the newspaper or magazine article, just pisses me off.
I read this evening an article about a southern gospel singer who was outed by a blackmailer. His record label dropped him, as did his promoter. He has recieved hate mail, email and telephone calls, all by supposed christians, and he still believes his attraction to other men is an abomination to god.
Who the fuck are these people?
I have a lot more to say on this subject, and the question of religion alltogether, but it will have to wait until my blood pressure lowers. I will confine myself to saying that if these people's god does not accept with love all those beings he has created, then we don't need that god.
Clearly, I need to read something happy.
Anyone have some Winnie the Pooh I can borrow?

Everything Is Illuminated is at times gut-wrenchingly funny, other times gut-wrenchingly sad, but feels like a complete human experience that you are glad to have gone through.
Really.
Or read some early Philip Roth, before he got pretty dark and cynical.
Maybe some John Irving? They usually end up pretty uplifting, by the final pages at least.
Winnie-the-Pooh books are great, Fortune Cookies, um all of the Dr. Seuss collection (My personal favs-There's a Wocket in My Pocket and Green Eggs and Ham) Can you tell I'm a good Auntie?
You might like David Lodge - his book Therapy had a very funny bit involving an unwillingly overheard discussion of porn that made me laugh so hard I cried.
Gonna hafta recommend some Harry Potter for ya... skip the first 3 (just watch the movies) - you can borrow 4, 5, and 6 from me.
Actually, books 1-3 might be alright to read, certainly they are fast reads, and they're not at all cynical, might be refreshing for you.

I rather like David Sedaris books for those lighter moments. Makes me laugh out loud.
